Beyond the Mirror - Seeing Yourself with Truth
May 18, 2025
The mirror reflects a version of you, the angles, the expressions, the form you present to the world. But who is the one looking back? Who is the presence behind your eyes, the one who watches beyond the surface?
We all carry two reflections. The outer self we shape for the world to see and the inner self that only we truly know. The outer self is carefully curated; a blend of identity, roles, and projections we create, sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously. We adjust, we filter, we present. But beneath it all, there is a witness who sees through every illusion. A part of us that knows when we are being honest and when we are hiding. That quiet wisdom of the heart, the deep knowing of the soul, it watches everything.
You Can’t Hide from Yourself
No matter how polished the projection, no matter how convincing the mask, we can never truly deceive the one who lives within. We might convince the world of a version of ourselves, but deep down, we always know the truth. And that truth, whether acknowledged or buried, longs to be seen.
Yoga is not about perfecting the reflection in the mirror, it is about aligning with the truth beyond it. It is the practice of dissolving the illusions that separate us from our most authentic self. It asks us to meet ourselves fully, to strip away the layers of conditioning and expectation, until all that remains is unfiltered presence.
Reflection as a Path to Wholeness
The practice of yoga teaches us that true reflection is not about seeing ourselves as the world does but about turning inward, listening, and aligning with what is real. It is about moving with honesty, breathing with awareness, and standing in our truth, on and off the mat.
So what do you reflect into the world? A carefully constructed image? Or the fullness of your heart? Because the only one you are fooling when you hide… is yourself.
Stand in your truth. Move in your truth. Be the reflection of your deepest, most authentic self.
